Each program cycle, Texas Youth and Government students elect ten high school officers and three middle school officers to provide youth leadership. The YMCA requires all candidates running for these positions to adhere to the Y core values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty. Additional guidance about candidate criteria and the election process can be found below.

Candidate Manual

The candidate manual goes over all our the leadership positions, their duties and what the qualifications are for each position. Read each qualifications very carefully to make sure you qualify before applying.

Application Process

The application will open in September and are due before October 9th. Delegates applying for a position will need to commit to the following:

  • Have completed our YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program Registration and we’ve received their Parent Approval Signature.
  • Read the Candidate Manual entirely
  • Completing the application
  • Creating a platform
  • Attending mandatory candidate training
  • Get Approved
  • Writing a speech to present at your District Conference
  • Begin campaign after the Campaign Kick-Off Date

No candidate can begin campaigning before October 6th. All candidates must be approved and must complete Candidate Training before they begin campaigning.   All applicants must attend our mandatory Candidate Training on October 3rd at 5:00pm. Register for the event here!

Campaign Rules

After the Campaign Kick-off Date, completing your candidate application, and attending Candidate Training, you are allowed to begin your campaign. Please be aware that YG personnel, including the State Director, will ensure fairness by disqualifying candidates found to be in violation of these rules. YG staff also reserves the right to disqualify candidates who do not adhere to our core values: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, CARING, and HONESTY. Any decisions made by the Elections Section Leader or the YG State Office will be final.
