Alumni Volunteers are the true power behind our program! Below are the different kind of volunteer opportunities great for alumni.

• Mentor – Volunteer from the comfort of your home or office. Login once a week to support a club leading up to district conference. 12 weeks/12 hours of your time.
• Provide Feedback on Bill/Brief/Proposals – Volunteer from wherever you are then read and provide feedback to delegates before they present at District Conference and State Conference.
• Day of  Volunteers – To ensure the  quality of our program its critical to have evaluators that know about our program. Considering volunteer in November for a regional conference near you.
• Section Leader – Section leaders are volunteer leaders that support our program year round. You help at local and state conference as section leadership, help us make program enhancements and serve as the face of our sections for students  and teachers. TX YG relies on over 70 section leaders to ensure our conferences are the top quality for our teens.
• State Volunteers – During the state conference we need day of volunteers for all our sections, but we also have group volunteer opportunities behind the scenes.
• YG Chats – We are always looking for alumni who have excelled in their field and are willing to host a 30-45 minute alumni chat where students can log in and learn more about your career, your path to success and how the YMCA helped you as a teen!

To maintain the fairness and integrity of the program, we ask that recent high school alumni sit out at least one program cycle year before registering to volunteer at the State Conferences. This means that college freshman are not eligible to volunteer at either the High School or Middle School State Conferences. We value your experience and willingness to help. However, we want to ensure that current program participants see recent high school graduates as experienced YG alumni and not as peers.

Alumni who have at least one year of college experience do have an opportunity to volunteer. Your volunteer capacity/responsibility will grow as you become an upperclassman. See more details below.

• If you are a college sophomore, you can volunteer at the High School State Conference as a General Conference Volunteer. The State Office will not assign you evaluator shifts in any section in advance because we want to ensure YG alumni are seen as knowledge experts and not as peers. However, if there are vacancies due to last-minute changes, the section leader may select you to fill an evaluator spot. You may also help section leaders in some other capacity.
• At the Middle School State Conference, college sophomores may serve as evaluators in sections or help section leaders in some other capacity. Volunteering in this way presents a great opportunity to serve as mentors to our middle school students.
• If you are a college junior or senior, you may sign up to volunteer at either the High School or Middle School State Conference. You can sign up to serve as an evaluator in a specific section or fill another volunteer role of your choice.
• Please understand that only registered participants, Y Staff, and Club Advisors who have paid the conference fees can participate in conference social activities and banquets.

A seasonal paid internship from late August to mid March. These are YG alumni would attend District Conferences in November and work for the three-day High School State Conference and/or two-day Middle School State Conference. These interns will assist in the planning of the State Conference in the spring and provide support in section specific areas of the program.  Our internship program is primarily made up of juniors and seniors in college, but the State Office may consider sophomores on an individual basis. Six spots are available each year at each State Conference.

Interns will be offered hotel accommodations and meals during the conference periods. College staff will be housed two students to a room and supervised by the program coordinator and the State Director. They will be assigned to various conference volunteer roles and may select areas of interest. However, the State Office will primarily assign them to roles with the greatest need. These include roles within specific sections, evening activity coordinators, and office assistants.

The Texas Youth and Government Program Coordinator and State Director will select college staff after review of each internship application.
